I used to lift to look a certain way. Then I had a kid, and the metric quietly changed.
The body matters in fatherhood not because of how it looks on a Tuesday afternoon, but because of what it lets you do for the next thirty years. Lift a toddler with a bad back and you find out fast which version of yourself is still in there. Take your kid out to the lineup on a head-high day and you find out whether your shoulders are still yours. Try to keep up with a six-year-old on a trail and you find out whether the body you built in your twenties is still showing up for the body you need now.
The Body is the chapter where we write about that. Not the fitness-influencer version. Not the gym-bro version. The functional version — strength as service. Cardio as the difference between being present at your kid's eighth birthday and being too tired to chase them. Sleep as a discipline, not a luxury. Mobility as a long game.
What you'll find here over time: training notes from a working father who's still figuring it out, surf and trail dispatches from San Onofre and the ridges north of Mission Viejo, gear we actually use, and honest accounts of the weeks the routine falls apart and what got us back.
No supplements to sell. No twelve-week transformations. Just the working pattern of keeping a body that can keep up with the life you've built.
More to come.
